Set in the grounds of the refurbished and extended chalet developed by the practice two years previously this new house also takes advantage of views to the south towards Mont Blanc and to the west. The sloping site determines the practicalities of vehicular and pedestrian accesses at the upper level with a large open plan kitchen/dining living space leading out onto sunny terraces, and bedrooms and bathrooms at the lower level. In a neighbourhood with houses of various styles built since the 1920s, the design uses local materials – stone, wood, rendered masonry – in a well-mannered but distinctly contemporary version of a mountain chalet.
