Side extension to cottage to create spacious living areas
The owner approached us to design alterations to their cottage house to provide more spacious layouts and improved living accommodation.
We proposed a ground floor, pitched roof side extension. Alongside partial reconfiguration of the internal layout this allowed us to create a new study room, generous open plan kitchen and family spaces, and to improve the connection to the garden spaces.
The extension also allowed us to relocate the staircase up to the first-floor bedroom spaces, creating an improved dining area on the ground floor and a useful landing reading area at first floor.
Sensitive design in the context of the adjoining historic property
The proposed design and appearance of the new extension was developed to be in keeping with the existing house and to ensure no harmful impact on the amenity or appearance of the neighbouring Grade II listed property.
Planning consent was obtained in 2023, and the works were completed in 2024.
