Rear & Basement Extension, Barrington Road

Crouch End, London Borough of Haringey, N8

This project was for the transformation of an existing basement through rear and side extensions to this terraced family house in Crouch End, north London.

The extension in-filled a little used external side passage and extended the accommodation into the garden, with a minimally framed glass screen and triple sliding doors that serve the main part of the basement, and a large pivot door that terminates the side infill-extension.

The opening up of the rear wall to the garden through the replacement of the bay window with the large glass screen, and the removal of the walls between the principal rooms, led to a contemporary, light filled, sociable family kitchen/dining/living room that flows out into the garden and that is ideal for entertaining, an important aspect of the brief.

Our clients have sent us the following testimonial: "Mike and Maha's thoughtful and insightful design has completely transformed our home and the way we live/our lifestyle. Their invaluable guidance throughout the project has created a haven.  We are very pleased to have made the decision to extend the kitchen and listen to their advice on key areas."

Planning consent was obtained in 2019 and the project was completed in January 2020.
