St. Paul's Way

London, E4

Haines Phillips Architects were appointed by the Principal Contractor Stack London
in 2020 for the detailed design, production information and construction stages of their St. Paul's Way project for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, including discharge of the architectural planning conditions.

The scheme is a new-build development of 23 residential units, including 2 fully accessible apartments, arranged over six floors above a ground floor shell and core community use facility.

The construction method is a lightweight steel frame system over a reinforced concrete podium. The height of the building and the nature of the structural steel system has required very careful coordination of the architectural, structural and services design packages, and compliance with demanding standards of fire safety.

The building is designed as a large volume with a strong horizontal emphasis which is stepped and articulated at the site edges to create landscaped terraces and via projecting and recessed balconies. Our work has included the detailed design of the architectural metalwork, fenestration and areas of patterned brickwork panels.
