Crouch Hill Glazed Extension

Compact contemporary extension to terraced house.

A compact extension to transform the quality of the kitchen space

The existing ground floor kitchen and dining spaces of the house were cramped and dark, with a poor relationship with the rear garden and little space for the family to dine together. Our clients approached us with a brief to improve these spaces within their limited budget.

We proposed a small rear extension and internal alterations to create an open plan kitchen / dining space which would vastly improve the quality and function of these areas of the house and the relationship between the internal and garden spaces.

Maximising the quality and impact of the alterations within the budget constraints

Our design was developed to maximise the effect the extensions and alterations to make best use of the Clients limited budget. The proposed extension was designed within the parameters of the permitted development guidelines and includes contemporary glazed patio doors, glazed roof and window seat elements.

By targeting the budget towards these key elements the effect on the new kitchen / dining space has been transformative, bringing light deep in to the plan and opening up views to and from the rear garden.

The structural alterations and other elements of the extension were kept as efficient and cost effective as possible. Our scope of services was limited to the essential elements to secure planning consent and a technical package of building regs and pricing information, with our Clients taking charge of the tender and construction stages direct with the Contractor and selecting internal fixtures and finishes.

Location

The development is located in London Borough of Islington, London N19.
