Haines Phillips Architects were appointed to design the internal and external alterations of our clients’ Grade II listed 18^th century family house in the Arundel Conservation Area to make the house more suitable to the lifestyle of their young and growing family.

Layout Plan Option 1

Our proposals included the removal of the greater part of the low quality 20^th century alterations to the building in order to preserve and enhance the original elements of the building.

Layout Option 2

A new staircase replacing the existing, and subtly arranged new internal partitions create a layout better suited to modern family living and to allow for future adaptation that would not affect the original listed building fabric.

Layout Option 3

Alterations to the rear elevation and creating a new terrace balcony

A number of windows and doors have been replaced to restore the proportions of the original building and to accommodate the creation of a new terrace at ground floor level.

Detailed design & specification of the internal fitout

We worked closely with our clients to prepare the detailed design and specification of the interior joinery, staircases and other elements. Using a 3D measured building survey information allowed us to design the new building elements so that they can be seamlessly integrated in to the original building fabric.

Our services included developing the design and brief with the clients, obtaining planning and listed building consents, detailed technical design, and careful liaison with the client and contractor during the building works.

New elements of the house were carefully integrated in to the historic layers of the building that became revealed during the build.
