Exploring and clarifying the brief
We begin by carefully clarifying and exploring the client’s brief, by preparing outline proposals with layout options that address the client’s brief. These outline proposals range from straightforward sketch designs for home extensions and refurbishments to detailed feasibility reports, addressing requirements of more complex sites.
This early design stage lays the foundation for a successful project and is where we assess the site and its potential and explore creative responses to unlock the opportunities and navigate any constraints. Whether the client is planning a one-off home, refurbishment, or a larger residential, commercial, or mixed-use development, this is where we bring strategic clarity and thoughtful design to the table from the outset.

Identifying the core project requirements
Our concept and feasibility studies clearly define essential project parameters, including planning and listed building matters, sustainability, regulatory compliance, and cost considerations. We also provide guidance on appointing specialist consultants, such as structural engineers, quantity surveyors, party wall surveyors and services engineers, and advise on project cost management and how best to select a suitable building contractor for your requirements.
A typical feasibility design phase will include a site visit or desktop review, initial sketch proposals, a review of planning policy and constraints, and early guidance on cost, programme, and the next steps. It is a valuable stage in shaping the direction of your project and ensuring informed decisions are made early on.
